I am using my WBR14S-N4 with an ISP/Cable Internet Provider and I cannot get online.
Please be sure to power cycle your Cable or DSL Modem after you have connected the wireless router to the modem and powered the router on. If you have a Cable Modem that provides voice service, you will need to find the reset button on the device in order to power cycle the device.

My WBR14S-N4 came with a CD installation disk but it is not working; can I install the wireless router without the setup disk?
Yes, please follow the manual installation steps in the products Quick Install Guide or use the Setup Wizard by logging into the device.

What should be the IP address of the computers connected to the router?
The IP address has to be 192.168.2.xx and the command to find out the IP address is ipconfig (Start -> Run -> “cmd” [enter] -> “ipconfig” [enter]).

What is the Command to check the connectivity of the router?
The command to ping the router is ping 192.168.2.1. Both are to be executed from a command prompt.

How do I clone the MAC address in a Router?
In the routers web interface, click on login (password would be either blank or smcadmin) -> Advanced setup -> click on WAN -> Dynamic IP address -> click on clone MAC address and save the settings.

How do I power cycle the Modem and Router?
Power OFF the Cable/DSL Modem, then the Router and wait for couple of minutes. Now power ON the Cable/DSL Modem First, after the modem gets initialized, Power ON the router.

How do I Login to the Router?
Open a new browser window and in the address bar type in ‘http://192.168.2.1′ or ‘http://192.168.2.1:80′ or ‘http://192.168.2.1:88′ and press enter.

How do I configure my SMC router for a DSL Internet connection?
In the routers web interface -> Click on login (password would be either blank or smcadmin) -> Advanced setup -> WAN -> PPPoE -> Enter the following values:
Type in the Username and the password provided by your ISP.
Set MTU = 1440.
Set maximum idle time to zero.
Save the settings.

I am unable to access the router’s web interface.
Check for restrictive Firewall settings.
Clear the cache of your web browser.
Try with a different web browser (e.g. Mozilla Firefox, Opera)
Try to access the router from a different computer.

What are the Firewall options?
Uninstall and/or disable all proxy software (i.e., Internet Connection Sharing), firewall software (i.e., Norton Internet Security, Black ice, McAfee Antivirus, Zone Alarm) and also disable the built-in windows XP firewall in the PC’s connected to the router.

How do I clear cache in Internet Explorer?
Open the Internet Explorer -> Tools menu | Internet Options -> Connections tab -> make sure ‘never dial a connection’ is selected.
Click on LAN settings and make sure nothing is checked.
Click on General Tab and remove the entire temp files, cookies, history and try out the IP address once again.

How do I reduce the card speed of the Network Interface Card?
To Reduce the link speed of your adapter to 10 half duplex, click Start | Control Panel | System | Device Manager | Network Adapters -> your NIC card properties ->Advanced Tab -> Link Speed = 10mbps half duplex.

How do I open ports in the Virtual Server?
You need to forward the ports used by the application to the server running the application in the Virtual Server, which is present in the router’s management screen, as follows.
Open your web browser, type in the router’s IP address (standard: ‘http://192.168.2.1′) and press enter.
Click on Login, Advanced Setup, NAT, Virtual Server.
Enter the port details and enable it as follows:

How do I open ports in the Special Application?
To access the application, you can open up the ports specific to the application in the special application, which is present in the router management screen as follows:
Open your web browser, type in the router’s IP address (standard: ‘http://192.168.2.1′) and press enter.
Click on Login, Advanced Setup, NAT, Special Application.
Enter the port details and enable it as follows:

*The port numbers given are just an example. You need to open the ports depending on the application you are using and should get the information from the application provider.

How do I enable DMZ on the router?
Open your web browser, type in the router’s IP address (standard: ‘http://192.168.2.1′) and press enter.
Click on Login, Advanced Setup, Firewall, enable it and click on apply.
Click on DMZ and select Yes to enable DMZ.
Enter the IP address of the machine, which was assigned a static ip address to be kept under DMZ, and click on apply.

How do I upgrade a Firmware?
Before doing the firmware upgrade, write down all the configuration settings made by you in the router.
To upgrade the firmware, login to the router’s web interface -> enter the password (smcadmin) -> click on login -> tools -> firmware upgrade -> click on browse -> browse to the location of the upgrade file -> click on ‘Begin Upgrade’ button -> you will be prompted to confirm the upgrade.

How do I RESET the router?
You will have to use a paper clip or a similar pointed object to do the reset procedure.

Hard reset: Insert the paper clip to the reset button and hold it down for 15 seconds, while the paper clip is still in unplug the power cord that goes in to the router, now wait for 15 more seconds and then give the power supply back to the router, again wait for 15 more seconds and finally let the clip go. You will see the router’s LEDs flashing. If this happens it means that we have successfully completed the reset.

Soft reset: Login to the router, go to the Tools menu, click on configuration tools and select the option restore router to factory defaults to reset the router.

What are the possible default passwords for the router?
The password would be blank/admin/smcadmin by default. Blank password implies that you need to click on login without giving any input.
But, if you have set a password on your own and not able to recollect it, try resetting the router.

What do I do if the WLAN LED is not working?
In the routers web-interface -> click on login -> Advanced setup -> check whether the wireless module of the router is enabled or not.
Also, click on disable -> now enable it -> save the settings -> power cycle the router and check whether the problem persists or not.
Alternatively, reset the router and check.

How do I Enable Encryption or secure my wireless Network?
To enable encryption, you need to log into the router’s configuration page: Click on Login -> Advanced Setup -> Wireless -> Encryption
Think up a Hexadecimal code with the appropriate amount of characters for the level of encryption you wish to use (Hexadecimal means you can use any number between 0 and 9, and the letters A through F).
128-bit encryption uses 26 characters. Example:
01 2C 45 67 89 A0 CD EF 01 23 45 6D F9

64-bit encryption uses 10 characters. Example:
01 A3 45 F7 89

How do I change wireless settings on the router?
In the routers web-interface -> click on login -> Advanced setup -> wireless -> enable -> apply -> channel and SSID -> Set the following values:

SSID : Set it to your name
SSID broadcast : Enabled
wireless Mode : Long range Mixed (11b + 11g )
Transmission rate : 11/ 54/ 108 Mbps
Channel : 6
g-nitro : disabled

What do I do if the Throughput is not 108Mbps?
In the routers web-interface, click on login (password would be either blank or smcadmin) -> home network settings -> wireless -> channel and SSID.
In channel and SSID go to wireless mode and select the option ‘dynamic turbo’ and apply the settings.
Now turbo cards can connect at 108 mbps with turbo router in the wireless computer.

How do I configure my SMC Turbo router for a Cable Internet connection?
